First Matter Press awarded Literary Arts’ 2024 Oregon Literary Fellowship for Publishers

I co-founded First Matter Press in 2018 with Lauren Paredes and Andra Vltavín. Current editors include myself, Lauren, Hailey Spencer and Emily Moon. Since 2018, we have published 26 books of poetry and genre expanding literature, primarily by first-time publishing authors.

Literary Arts received 556 applications from writers and 31 applications from publishers for the 2024 Oregon Literary Fellowships. The fellowships for publishers were judged by Carmen Giménez, Publisher and Executive Director of Graywolf Press. Since 1987, Literary Arts has honored over 700 Oregon writers and publishers, and distributed more than $1 million in fellowships and award monies through the Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships program.

Fellowship funds funded our 2024 publication cycle, producing greenhouse by Sophie Hall and Suspended In My Insecticide Jar by Clara McAuley.
